Onhyeri Jung Youngja House

Design 2021 - 2022
Construction 2023

The design of the Jung Youngja House in Onhye Village began with the consideration of the context of the surrounding village, including the 'Onhye Clan Ancestral Home of the Jinseong Lee Family in Andong,' a national intangible cultural heritage that was established around 1454. We started the design process from defining the unique landscape that Onhye Village possesses. The stone walls and tiled roofs that form boundaries serve as physical elements that correspond to the cultural heritage while maintaining the distinctive scenery of the village. The space between the roof and the stone walls creates a loose relationship that allows nature to permeate into the interior. We intended to merge nature between these two relationships rather than directly conflicting different forms and types, thus preserving their inherent values. The pillars supporting the roof are arranged in a way that emphasizes openness and the movement of free space, not aligned in a strict manner but rather sliding against each other, aligning with the flow. In the proposal for the Jung Youngja House in Onhye Village, our intention was to bring out the current time and self-vitalization within the contemplative time of dwelling in a place for a long time, bridging the present and oneself.
