Gangneung Unification Park Observation Tower
Competition Winner
Design 2023 - 2024
Construction 2024 -
Interlaced Scape provides a multilayered spatial experience where natural and artificial elements intertwine, allowing the architecture to offer non-linear movement and multiple perspectives, encouraging an exploration of the essence of movement. The process of ascending evokes an innate human instinct to explore unknown places. The non-linear pathways interwoven with natural and architectural spaces create an unfamiliar experience of discovery.
The structural complexity of Vierendeel trusses and angled, interlaced columns and beams forms a contrast with the natural disorder at various intersecting points of forces. At the final destination, the observatory, visitors can experience the surrounding landscape through segmented frames and vanishing points from multiple perspectives.
This entire journey becomes a phenomenological reenactment of dynamic exploration, drawing the visitor into an emotional immersion as they progress toward the destination.
