Onhyeri Jung Youngja House
Design 2021 - 2022
Construction 2023
The design of the Jeong Yeong-ja House in Onhye-ri began with careful consideration of the context surrounding the Andong Jinsung Lee Clan’s Onhye-pa Jongtaek, a national folk cultural heritage site built around 1454, and the surrounding village. We started by defining the unique landscape inherent to Onhye-ri, where the stone walls and tiles that form boundaries serve as physical elements that preserve the distinctive scenery of the village, resonating with the cultural heritage site.
Between the roof and stone walls, a gap was intentionally left to create a loose connection, allowing nature to flow into the interior. Instead of creating direct conflicts between differing forms and types, we placed nature in juxtaposition between the two, maintaining their intrinsic value.
The columns supporting the roof are arranged to slip past one another rather than align in rows, emphasizing a sense of openness and movement within the space. Our proposal for the Jeong Yeong-ja House in Onhye-ri seeks to vividly reveal both the current moment and personal presence within the enduring, settled time of residing in a single place.
