Dangjin Gosan District Rural Space Improvement Project Design Competition

Competition, 2nd Prize
Design 2026

Second Operation
Within the Rural Space Improvement Project, industrial structures and infrastructural remnants scheduled for removal are not treated as obsolete matter, but reinterpreted as flexible systems capable of reactivation. Through processes of rearrangement, repurposing, and selective retention, they are converted into civic resources that can support new forms of public use. The ecological substratum for soil recovery is differentiated according to the degree and character of contamination, allowing each phase of remediation to register as a distinct landscape condition. Through the gradual accumulation of these restorative layers, architecture and terrain are returned to the public domain as shared social assets. The polluted ground of the former livestock complex, together with the social tensions long inscribed within it, is thus transformed into a metabolic landscape where environmental recovery and relational repair unfold in parallel.
